Sony Reader PRS-505

The new eBook Reader from Sony, the Sony Reader PRS-505, is a beautiful device and one that will undoubtedly be a big seller this Christmas.
eBook Readers are quite new to the UK market but are about to become a major new gadget which goes beyond the early adopters market and will soon be common place in most homes. Why? Well, for a start eBook Readers are good for the environment. Rather than destroy several forests to produce books, eBook Readers allow you to read books electronically. If you like, eBooks are the iPods of the book world.
The Sony Reader PRS-505 is available to buy from Sony now on a pre-order basis before it’s official launch in the UK on 4th Sept 2008. At £199.00 it is priced well below many of its rivals and coupled with the Sony brand is sure to be a winner.

Sony Reader PRS-505 Key Features
Unlike a lot of new technology (the Sony PS3 Console included), the Sony eBook Reader has a wealth of supporting applications - in this case, eBooks. Sony has teamed up with Waterstones to offer over 25,000 eBooks, enough to keep even the most dedicated reader busy! If 160 books isn’t enough, then the PRS-505 supports Sony Memory Stick Duo™ and SD memory cards.
The Sony PRS-505 easily sits in your hands and its lightweight nature means it’s comfortable to use for as long as you want to read. Battery life on the Sony Reader is equivalent to 7000 page turns, so you can read five of the largest books you can find without recharging.
- Memory holds 160 ebooks
- Dimensions are 6.9″ x 4.8″ x 0.3″ (175 x 122 x 8mm) which makes it smaller than most paperbacks

So Are There Any Negatives With the Sony Reader?
As always, we’ve all got our own personal opinions, so these are offered as developments for the Sony Reader rather than negative points.
- Add a colour screen, not for text but for images
- Include a search facility, seems pretty basic not to have one
- Include standard PDS features like a calendar, a notepad and a task list

The Sony Reader PRS-505 is lovely, so much better than previous eBook Readers, in my opinion anyway.
